Mon Sep 16 10:00:54 UTC 2024: ## Liverpool’s Champions League Journey Begins with Milan Showdown
Liverpool’s 2024-25 UEFA Champions League campaign kicks off with an away match against AC Milan at the San Siro on September 18. The Reds, six-time champions, will face their historic rivals in the first game of the newly formatted tournament.
This season marks a new era for Liverpool, with Arne Slot taking over as manager following Jürgen Klopp’s departure. The team will also be without midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who retired last season, but have added Italian winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus.
The Champions League will see a league phase format this year, with 36 clubs from Europe’s top competitions competing in eight matches against eight different opponents. Liverpool’s group includes defending champions Real Madrid, a rematch of their 2017-18 and 2021-22 final losses. The Reds will host Real Madrid at Anfield on November 28.
Other opponents for Liverpool include RB Leipzig, Bologna, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Girona, LOSC Lille and PSV Eindhoven. The league phase runs from September 17 to January 30, with the final taking place on May 31 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Liverpool will also be competing in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup this season.
