Sun Sep 15 11:44:11 UTC 2024: ## Local Resident Aims to Bring Voice to Casey’s Waratah Ward

**Hallam, Doveton, and Hampton Park** – Stefan Koomen, a long-time resident of Waratah Ward, has announced his independent candidacy for the upcoming Casey Council elections in October. Koomen, who has been a vocal advocate for the community, is determined to provide representation for the suburbs of Hallam, Doveton, and Hampton Park, which he believes have been overlooked by previous council members.

“It means having someone who loves and works in the area, being a voice for the area, and ensuring that the issues in our communities, which are unique, get a voice in the council,” said Koomen. He highlighted the need for prioritising services and infrastructure in the area, which he believes has been neglected in favor of newer areas within Casey.

Koomen is passionate about addressing specific concerns within the ward. He pledges to revitalize the Doveton Pool, which was the subject of a widespread community campaign to save. In Hampton Park, he aims to transform the Hampton Park Shopping Centre into a community hub, a project that has stalled due to a lack of local representation. He also emphasizes the need for improved and better maintained playgrounds and parks throughout the ward.

Recognizing the changing needs of the community, Koomen will prioritize community safety and work closely with local police to address concerns and allocate resources effectively. He believes in accessible and safe public spaces through measures like increased lighting and other security measures to discourage anti-social behavior.

“Our suburbs deserve better – someone who will fight against backroom deals and bring greater transparency for our suburbs,” said Koomen, highlighting his commitment to integrity and transparency in council governance. He emphasizes the need for an apolitical approach focused on collaboration and constructive planning for the betterment of the community.

As an independent candidate, Koomen assures residents he will be a strong and independent voice for their concerns, drawing on his experience in government and working with local councils. He aims to bring his passion for community advocacy to the council table, ensuring that the needs of the suburbs of Hallam, Doveton, and Hampton Park are heard and met.
