**Chennai, India:** Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has lauded Jasprit Bumrah, calling him a “once-in-a-generation” bowler and the “most valuable Indian cricketer” at present. Bumrah, who recently returned to the Indian squad after a long injury break, will feature in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19th in Chennai.

Speaking on Vimal Kumar’s YouTube channel, Ashwin emphasized the importance of celebrating Bumrah’s exceptional talent. He highlighted that while India has historically been a batsman-dominated nation, it’s crucial to acknowledge and appreciate Bumrah’s unique skillset.

“India has always been a batsman-dominated country, and it’s never going to change. But I am so glad and happy that we are celebrating Jasprit Bumrah. Jasprit Bumrah is a once-in-a-generation bowler. We should celebrate him even more,” said Ashwin.

The Chennai-based spinner also lauded the city’s love for bowlers, stating, “We Chennai people appreciate bowlers a lot. He (Bumrah) was here for an event as a chief guest 4-5 days ago. We gave him a Rajni treatment. We (Chennai people) treat bowlers very nicely. He should be treated as a champion. I don’t want to name, but Jasprit Bumrah is the most valuable Indian cricketer right now.”

Bumrah’s return to the Test squad is eagerly anticipated, with the pacer boasting an impressive record of 159 wickets in 36 appearances since his debut in 2018. The first Test against Bangladesh will be held in Chennai, followed by the second Test in Kanpur on September 27th.
