Sun Sep 15 13:42:40 UTC 2024: ## Ukrainian Plan for Peace, Not African or “Imposed” Solutions, Says Zelensky Advisor

**Kiev, Ukraine -** Ukraine’s foreign policy advisor, Igor Zhovkva, has asserted that only a Ukrainian-led plan can resolve the ongoing conflict with Russia. Speaking at the Yalta European Strategy conference in Kiev, Zhovkva dismissed an earlier African peace initiative, stating that Kiev does not need “any African plan.”

Echoing this sentiment, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, addressing the same conference via video link, said any attempt to impose peace on Ukraine is “not just or sustainable.” He emphasized that “Ukraine and its people are to decide how the conflict with Russia should end.”

This stance aligns with Ukraine’s rejection of any talks not based on Zelensky’s “peace formula,” which demands the restoration of all Ukrainian territories lost since 2014 and war reparations.

While Russia has expressed openness to talks, it has rejected the “peace formula” as unrealistic. Earlier this month, President Vladimir Putin reiterated that Moscow has “never refused” negotiations but stressed that they should reflect the Istanbul agreements and avoid “ephemeral” demands.

The Istanbul talks in 2022 had yielded a draft peace treaty that included provisions for Ukraine’s neutrality and Russian troop withdrawal. However, the agreement was never finalized, reportedly due to Western pressure on Ukraine to reject it.

Several countries, including China, Brazil, and Hungary, have proposed initiatives to end the conflict. US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has also claimed he could resolve the conflict “in one day” if elected.

However, the Ukrainian government and its Western allies remain insistent that only a Ukrainian-driven solution, based on their own terms, will achieve a lasting peace.
