Mon Sep 16 09:53:54 UTC 2024: ## Former Pakistan Captain Younis Khan Criticizes Babar Azam’s Leadership and Performance
**New Delhi:** Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has lashed out at current captain Babar Azam and other top players for prioritizing personal interests over the national cause. Khan’s criticism comes after a string of poor performances from the Pakistani team, including Babar Azam’s failure to score a half-century in his last 16 Test innings.
“If Babar and other top players deliver on the field, then results will be clear to everyone. Humare players khelte kam, bolte zyada hai. (I have observed that our players tend to talk more than they perform),” Younis told Cricket Pakistan at an event.
Khan went on to suggest that Babar Azam should learn from Virat Kohli, who stepped down from the Indian captaincy to focus on his batting, ultimately leading to improved performances. “Look at Virat Kohli. He chose to step down from captaincy on his own terms, and now he’s breaking records worldwide,” Khan remarked.
He also pointed out that Babar Azam’s focus should be on cricket, urging him to improve his performance and fitness. “Your focus should be on cricket. You have to perform everywhere because there are very high expectations,” Younis advised.
Pakistan’s head coaches, Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, have reportedly cautioned the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) against making rash captaincy decisions in the wake of recent poor performances. However, a PCB source has assured that there have been no discussions regarding changes to the captaincy.
While the PCB has denied any imminent changes to the leadership, the team’s recent struggles have raised concerns about the future of Babar Azam’s captaincy and the overall direction of the Pakistani cricket team.
