Sun Sep 15 03:14:47 UTC 2024: ## Jacksonville State Falls to 0-3 After Overtime Heartbreak Against Eastern Michigan

**Ypsilanti, MI** – Jacksonville State football suffered a heartbreaking loss to Eastern Michigan in double overtime on Saturday, falling to 0-3 for the first time since 2005. Despite a strong offensive performance and a late comeback, a missed field goal in the second overtime sealed their fate.

The Gamecocks’ offense, led by quarterback Tyler Huff, started strong, scoring a touchdown in the first quarter for the first time this season. Huff had a standout first half, going 11 of 15 for 167 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 43 yards rushing.

However, the defense struggled once again, allowing two touchdowns in the first quarter. The Eagles capitalized on the Gamecocks’ struggles on third down, converting 10 of 19 attempts, while Jacksonville State went just 3 of 12 on third down and 0 for 3 on fourth down.

Despite the struggles, the Gamecocks fought back, tying the game with a 50-yard field goal by Garrison Rippa with 34 seconds left in regulation. In the first overtime, Rippa hit a 40-yard field goal to extend the game after Eastern Michigan kicked a field goal. But in the second overtime, Rippa missed a 37-yard field goal, while the Eagles’ Jeśus Gómez converted a 34-yard attempt for the win.

The Gamecocks will look to rebound next week as they return home to AmFirst Stadium to host Southern Miss at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
