**Logan, UT** – The No. 12 ranked Utah Utes overcame a shaky start and an early lead by in-state rival Utah State to secure a 38-21 victory in their first road game of the season.
The Aggies, led by former Ute quarterback Bryson Barnes, jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first half, leaving the Utes in unfamiliar territory. Freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson, making his first collegiate start in place of the injured Cam Rising, struggled early, completing just 4 of 9 passes for 35 yards in the first quarter.
However, Wilson settled down in the second quarter, finding his rhythm and connecting with receivers for 96 yards and two touchdowns. His performance continued throughout the game, finishing with 239 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
The Utes’ defense, while giving up some early big plays, came up big with two interceptions, one by Smith Snowden and another by Cameron Calhoun. Their ability to limit Utah State’s offense in the second half proved crucial.
Running backs Micah Bernard and Mike Mitchell led the Utes’ offensive charge, combining for 198 yards and a touchdown. Bernard, in particular, had a standout performance with 123 yards and a touchdown.
The win marks the Utes’ third victory of the season and keeps their undefeated streak alive. They will now turn their attention to a tough matchup against the Oklahoma State Cowboys next week, a game that promises to be one of the biggest of the young season.
