**Tehran, Iran** – Iran successfully launched its latest research satellite, Chamran-1, into orbit on Saturday, according to state media. The satellite, weighing approximately 60 kilograms, was carried by the Ghaem-100 rocket, a three-stage solid-fuel launcher developed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Chamran-1 is designed to test hardware and software systems for orbital maneuver technology, according to state television. It was built by Iranian Electronics Industries, an organization affiliated with the defense ministry.
Western governments, including the United States, have expressed concern over Iran’s satellite launches, citing their potential dual-use nature. They argue that the technology used for satellite launches can be adapted for ballistic missiles, including those capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Iran has vehemently denied these accusations, maintaining that its space program is purely for civil and defense purposes.
Despite international criticism, Iran continues to advance its aerospace program. Earlier this year, Russia launched an Iranian remote sensing and imaging satellite, drawing further condemnation from the U.S.
