**Ahmedabad, Gujarat:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first Vande Metro service between Bhuj and Ahmedabad on Monday, during his first visit to Gujarat. The service was flagged off virtually from Bhuj railway station at 4:15 pm.

Hours before the inauguration, the Railway Ministry renamed the metro to “Namo Bharat Rapid Rail,” a move that has sparked both praise and criticism.

The Vande Metro service, described as a “leap forward in commuter comfort and a catalyst for economic growth in Kutch,” is expected to boost tourism and job creation in the region.

**Here are the key features of the Vande Metro:**

* **Commences Service:** The Ahmedabad-Bhuj service begins on September 17, while the Bhuj-Ahmedabad service starts on September 18.
* **Journey Time & Stops:** The train covers the 360-kilometer distance in 5 hours and 45 minutes at a speed of 110 km/h, with stops at nine stations: Sabarmati, Chandlodiya, Viramgam, Dhrangadhra, Halvad, Samakhiali, Bhachau, Gandhidham, and Anjar.
* **Amenities & Safety:** The train boasts 12 air-conditioned coaches with advanced features like automatic sliding doors, modular interiors, LED lighting, vacuum evacuation toilets, panoramic windows, CCTV, phone charging facilities, and KAVACH for collision avoidance.
* **Accessibility & Capacity:** Designed with inclusivity in mind, the Vande Metro has Divyangjan-friendly toilets, a fully sealed flexible gangway, and meal service. It can accommodate 1,150 passengers.

The Railway Ministry highlights the Vande Metro’s contribution to faster intercity travel, efficient journeys, and reduced turnaround time.
