Hulunbuir, China: India, fresh off a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, are poised for a dominant semifinal clash against a potentially unpredictable Korea in the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament.
The Harmanpreet Singh-led team has been in top form, securing five consecutive wins in the group stage. Their prowess has been evident across the board, with a strong forward line, midfield, and a defense that has conceded only four goals.
India’s strikers, particularly the young talents like Sukhjeet Singh, Abhishek, and Uttam Singh, have shone, exceeding expectations after the team struggled to score field goals in Paris. Midfielder Raj Kumar Pal has also impressed, scoring several field goals.
The Indian defense has been equally impressive, with goalkeepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Suraj Karkera filling the void left by the retired PR Sreejesh.
While India has been dominant, Harmanpreet has cautioned his team against underestimating Korea. “Korea is a tough team, they defend very well and can counter attack fast and skillfully,” he said. Korea, led by tournament top scorer Jihun Yang, is a threat from penalty corners.
“We came into this tournament with very little rest or preparations,” Harmanpreet added. “Despite that, I am happy with how the team has done to progress into the semifinal stage.”
The other semifinal pits Pakistan against hosts China, with the final scheduled for Tuesday. India will be looking to maintain their winning momentum and secure a place in the final.
