Anantapur: Pacer Anshul Kamboj’s remarkable eight-wicket haul propelled India C to the top of the Duleep Trophy standings after they secured a first innings lead against India B.

Resuming day four at 309 for seven, India B were eventually dismissed for 332, with Kamboj cleaning up the tail to add to his overnight five wickets. India B skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran remained unbeaten on 157. Despite a valiant effort by Easwaran, India C’s first innings score of 525 proved too much for the opposition.

In their second innings, India C reached 128 for four before the teams decided to shake hands. The first innings lead earned India C three points, putting them at the top of the table with nine points from two matches. India B earned a solitary point for the draw.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (62) and Rajat Patidar (40s) contributed significantly to India C’s innings.

Kamboj’s performance was particularly noteworthy, marking only the third time in Duleep Trophy history that a pacer had taken eight or more wickets in an innings. This was also his first ever five-wicket haul in his 15th first-class match. Kamboj, who has played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, was deservingly named Player of the Match.
