Sun Sep 15 15:47:29 UTC 2024: ## Kashmir Election Twist: Awami Ittehad Party and Former Jama’at-e-Islami Members Form Strategic Alliance

**Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir:** In a surprise move ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) led by Engineer Rashid and former members of the banned Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) have announced a strategic alliance. This alliance aims to consolidate votes and maximize their influence in the region.

The decision, according to sources, comes as both parties recognize that contesting alone would lead to a division of their vote bank. By joining forces, they hope to gain a stronger foothold, particularly in South and North Kashmir.

The agreement entails mutual support for candidates in various constituencies. The AIP will back JeI-supported candidates in Kulgam and Pulwama, while the JeI will support AIP candidates across Kashmir. In areas where both parties have fielded candidates, they will engage in a friendly contest, with mutual support in other constituencies.

Political analysts believe this alliance will have a significant impact on the election landscape. The PDP is expected to suffer the most in South Kashmir, while the National Conference’s vote bank in North Kashmir could also take a hit.

The alliance emphasizes a shared goal of resolving the Kashmir issue and achieving a lasting and dignified peace in the region. Both parties have expressed concerns over the rapidly evolving political landscape and believe that collaboration is essential for them to be effective.

The move comes just ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Chenab Valley on Monday, where he will address three rallies.

The alliance between the AIP and former JeI members signifies a shifting political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir. It remains to be seen how this alliance will impact the elections and the future of the region.
