**Jerusalem** – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed a strong response after a missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels reached central Israel on Sunday, marking the first time the group has struck so deep within the country.
The Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they used a new hypersonic ballistic missile which traveled 2,040 kilometers in just 11 and a half minutes.
While Israeli authorities initially reported the missile falling in an open area, the military later stated that it likely fragmented in the air, with pieces of interceptors landing in fields and near a railway station. No injuries were reported.
The attack comes amidst escalating tensions in the region, with Iran, a key backer of the Houthis, facing increasing pressure from the West. Netanyahu’s statement suggests Israel will respond forcefully to the unprecedented attack, further raising concerns about a potential escalation of conflict.
