Sun Sep 15 13:47:05 UTC 2024: ## Harry Brook to Captain England in ODI Series Against Australia

**Nottingham, England:** Young batsman Harry Brook will captain England in the upcoming one-day international (ODI) series against Australia, starting Thursday at Trent Bridge. This marks Brook’s first captaincy assignment at the international level.

The decision comes after Jos Buttler, England’s regular ODI captain, was ruled out due to a persistent calf injury. Buttler has been sidelined since the T20 World Cup semi-final against India in June and has also missed the recent T20 series against Australia.

Brook, with just 15 ODI caps to his name, is considered a future leader within the England team. His appointment adds to the series of new captains England has seen this season, with Ollie Pope taking over in Test cricket and Phil Salt leading the T20 side.

The 25-year-old Brook, despite his limited experience in ODI cricket, has shown immense potential and is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the team.

Meanwhile, the 50-over squad has also been affected by injury. Josh Hull, who debuted in the recent Test series against Sri Lanka, has been ruled out with a quad injury. However, Liam Livingstone has been recalled after impressive performances in the T20 series.

The ODI series will be a crucial test for England as they face the reigning 50-over world champions, Australia.
