Sun Sep 15 11:43:07 UTC 2024: ## FedEx Expands Electric Delivery Fleet with 15 Workhorse W56 Vans

**MEMPHIS, TN –** FedEx is continuing its commitment to electrifying its delivery fleet with the purchase of 15 Workhorse W56 electric step vans. The move follows a successful pilot program and marks a significant step towards the company’s goal of achieving zero-tailpipe emissions by 2040.

The Workhorse W56 boasts an efficient electric drivetrain, regenerative braking, and lightweight composite body panels, all contributing to increased efficiency, reduced operational costs, and a lower environmental impact compared to traditional diesel trucks.

“FedEx is cultivating a strong roster of electric vehicle models that can meet the demands of our network,” stated Pat Donlon, Vice President, Global Vehicles, FedEx. “The electric Workhorse W56 will be an important part of our transition to a fully electric delivery fleet.”

The W56 has already proven its capabilities with impressive performance in real-world delivery route testing. FedEx achieved an average of 31 MPGe, a significant improvement over the national average of 7 MPG for similar diesel trucks. This translates to a substantial reduction in energy consumption and a decrease in harmful tailpipe emissions.

Workhorse estimates that the 15 W56 vans will avoid an estimated 607 metric tons of emissions annually.

The company’s investment in electric delivery vehicles follows a similar move by UPS, which ordered 1,000 Workhorse vans in 2018. Workhorse is now ramping up production at its new manufacturing facility, dubbed “Workhorse Ranch,” with the capacity to build and paint 5,000 vehicles per year.

The first W56 step vans are expected to enter service in FedEx’s fleet during Q1 2024. While there have been slight delays, FedEx is committed to its goal of transitioning to a fully electrified fleet, with the W56 playing a crucial role in this ambitious initiative.
