**JASIN, MELAKA** – A 29-year-old housewife, Nur Ayuni Raman, was tragically killed on the spot today after the car she was travelling in crashed into a tree along Jalan Gapam-Bemban. The incident marks yet another fatality on the notorious stretch of road, which has been dubbed the “killer tree” due to its repeated involvement in fatal accidents.
The accident occurred around 8:30 am when the victim’s husband, Muhammad Bustaman Ismail, lost control of his car and collided with the same giant tree that has been responsible for numerous deaths in the past. Nur Ayuni succumbed to severe head injuries, while her husband sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Melaka Hospital.
Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Jamil Radzi confirmed the details, adding that a female relative of one of his officers from the district traffic division also lost her life in a similar manner at the same spot last year. The victim’s car, just like Nur Ayuni’s, had crashed into the giant tree.
This stretch of road has seen a tragic string of accidents in recent years. In January 2022, two siblings were killed when their motorcycle collided with the same tree, and a 43-year-old lady driver also lost her life in a similar crash just days before.
Melaka police have officially recognized this stretch as one of the 13 most accident-prone roads in the state. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of today’s accident to understand what factors led to the driver losing control of his vehicle.
