**NAPA COUNTY, CA** – “Dancing With the Stars” professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev has filed for divorce from his wife, Nikki Garcia, citing irreconcilable differences. The filing comes just weeks after Chigvintsev was arrested for domestic violence.

Chigvintsev’s divorce response, obtained by Us Weekly, contests Garcia’s request for sole physical custody of their 4-year-old son, Matteo. He is seeking joint legal and physical custody. Additionally, Chigvintsev is asking for spousal support and reimbursement of his attorney fees.

The couple, who married in 2022, separated on August 29th, the same day Chigvintsev was arrested in Napa County, California, on suspicion of corporal injury to a spouse. According to TMZ, Chigvintsev initially called 9-1-1 for medical assistance, claiming Garcia threw shoes at him. He later canceled the request, but police arrived at the couple’s home and ultimately took him into custody.

Chigvintsev was released after posting $25,000 bail. He is currently facing a felony charge and an upcoming court date has not been set.

The news of the divorce filing and Chigvintsev’s request for spousal support has drawn criticism from fans online. Some have expressed surprise and disappointment, speculating that he is attempting to take advantage of Garcia’s financial success.
