Mon Sep 16 07:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Eid-Milad Bank Holiday in India: A Shift to Wednesday

**Mumbai, September 15, 2024:** In a surprising turn of events, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a change to the Eid-Milad bank holiday in India. Initially scheduled for Monday, September 16th, the holiday has been shifted to Wednesday, September 18th, following a revised holiday schedule from the Government of Maharashtra.

The RBI press release states that this new holiday date will fall under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, rendering all banks in Maharashtra closed. As a result, transactions and settlements in government securities, foreign exchange, money markets, and rupee interest rate derivatives will be postponed until Thursday, September 19th.

While banks will be physically closed on Wednesday, online services and transactions, including UPI payments, will remain operational. The shift in the holiday has sparked confusion among citizens, particularly with September already anticipated to be a busy month for holidays.

This news comes amidst a flurry of announcements regarding holiday schedules in India, with multiple festivals and regional holidays expected throughout September. It is advised that citizens check individual state calendars and bank websites for the most updated information.
