**KATHMANDU, September 15, 2024:** The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has proposed holding by-elections for vacant local positions on December 1st, a Sunday. The proposal was presented to Prime Minister KP Oli by Chief Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapalia and other EC officials during a meeting on Thursday.

These by-elections will fill 41 vacant local representative positions, including the two heads of currently vacant district coordination committees. Prime Minister Oli responded by stating that the government would review the proposal and announce the official date for the by-elections as soon as possible. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections.

The meeting was attended by several prominent government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal.
