Sun Sep 15 14:16:44 UTC 2024: ## Eagles’ Slay Aims for 30 Interceptions, Eyes Cousins in Week 2 Matchup
**PHILADELPHIA -** Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay is showing no signs of slowing down in his 12th NFL season. Despite being targeted only once in the season opener against the Green Bay Packers, Slay remains a top-tier defender, attributing his success to a focus on technique and a strategic approach to conserve energy.
“My God-given ability is speed, so I don’t try to use my speed during games,” Slay said. “I try to be a smart player to avoid running fast all the time.”
While the lack of targets limited his interception opportunities, Slay is aiming for a significant milestone – reaching 30 career interceptions. “30 is the milestone,” Slay explained. “You get in that 30 club, you’re special. I’m trying to get in that 30 club.”
Slay will have a chance to add to his interception total this week against the Minnesota Vikings, facing a familiar opponent in quarterback Kirk Cousins. Slay has intercepted Cousins three times in his career, including two on Monday Night Football.
“He’s still a smart player,” Slay said of Cousins. “He’s never been known for a scrambler. He’s been a good decision-maker and a good thrower, and that’s what he’s going to continue to be for his career.”
Despite Cousins’ reputation for making smart throws, Slay believes he has an edge in this matchup. “It’s just playing ball,” Slay said. “It’s just doing your assignment. He’s a guy that’s very detailed, so you just gotta out-detail the detail guy.”
As the Eagles prepare for their Week 2 matchup, Slay’s focus remains on achieving his goals and continuing his strong performance on the field. His pursuit of the 30-interception milestone and his matchup against Cousins promises to be a highlight of the game.
