MIAMI – Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered his third concussion in two seasons on Thursday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills, has no plans to retire, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Tagovailoa, who sustained multiple head injuries in 2022, including one that led to a disturbing scene where he was stretchered off the field against the Cincinnati Bengals, is adamant about returning to the field. While the timeline for his recovery remains unclear, the Dolphins’ quarterback is already undergoing consultations with concussion specialists.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, while understanding the concerns of fans and pundits about Tagovailoa’s future, urged everyone to focus on his health and well-being. He stressed that any discussion about retirement is premature and could potentially negatively impact Tagovailoa’s recovery process.
“I think it would be so wrong of me to even sniff that subject,” McDaniel said. “It’s more in line of actually caring about the human being and that’s something that entirely you’re talking about his career, right?”
The Dolphins, who signed Tagovailoa to a massive four-year extension this offseason, remain confident in his ability to lead the team. However, the primary focus at this time is on ensuring his health and allowing him the time and support he needs to recover from this latest concussion.
