Sun Sep 15 15:10:07 UTC 2024: ## Minnesota First Lady Slammed for “Cringe” Trump Goodbye Gesture
Gwen Walz, the First Lady of Minnesota, has drawn criticism for her enthusiastic, and some say cringeworthy, call to “turn the page” on former President Donald Trump during a campaign event in Wisconsin.
While supporting her husband, Governor Tim Walz, and Vice President Kamala Harris, Walz mimicked turning a page in a book, then emphatically waved goodbye, declaring “Bye bye, Donald Trump.” She encouraged the audience to join her in the gesture, emphasizing the Democratic Party’s desire to move past the Trump era.
The gesture sparked a social media firestorm, with critics labeling it as “bizarre” and “1000x worse than Hillary Clinton,” comparing it to past political blunders.
The criticism comes on the heels of previous controversy surrounding Walz’s remarks about the 2020 Minnesota riots. In a 2020 interview, she described her experience during the riots, noting that she kept her windows open despite the smell of burning tires as a way to “feel” what was happening.
Some critics felt her comments were insensitive, while others found them bizarre and out of touch.
The Walz-Harris campaign has not yet responded to the latest criticism regarding the “bye bye” gesture.
