Bengaluru-based startup Game Theory is using AI to revolutionize sports training and talent identification in India. Founded by Sudeep Kulkarni, the company aims to address the gap in sports development by providing objective metrics and personalized training.
Game Theory’s AI-driven technology, called G.O.A.T Vision, captures a staggering one lakh frames per hour of play, generating data on speed, distance, error rate, and win percentages. This data allows coaches and parents to track progress and identify athletes’ potential, including those who could represent India on the global stage.
The startup currently operates 15 centers in Bengaluru, offering coaching for sports like swimming, tennis, badminton, squash, and basketball. They cater to children as young as four and adults up to 34, with their most successful program being swimming for infants as young as six months.
Game Theory also fosters a strong community aspect, using its technology to connect players with complementary skills for competitive practice. This fosters healthy competition and encourages continuous improvement.
The company has garnered interest and investment from prominent sports figures, including badminton legend Pullela Gopichand, squash champion Saurav Ghosal, and tennis player Rohan Bopanna. Gopichand views Game Theory’s technology as crucial for building a robust sports ecosystem in India, particularly in identifying and nurturing future Olympic talent.
In October 2023, Game Theory secured $2 million in pre-Series A funding, fueled by investors like Nithin Kamath’s Rainmatter and WEH Ventures. This investment will enable the company to expand its reach and impact, with a long-term vision of making a significant contribution to Indian sports by 2036.
With its focus on data-driven training, community engagement, and personalized development, Game Theory is poised to become a game-changer in the Indian sports landscape, potentially shaping the future of Indian Olympians.
