Sun Sep 15 15:20:36 UTC 2024: ## CNN Fact-Checks Kamala Harris Campaign for Repeatedly Deceptive Social Media Posts

**WASHINGTON** – CNN has issued a rare fact-check of the Democratic Party, specifically targeting the social media account of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, @KamalaHQ. The report highlights numerous instances where the account has deceptively edited and captioned video clips to attack former President Donald Trump, often misrepresenting his statements and creating a misleading narrative.

CNN identified eight examples of false or misleading posts from @KamalaHQ since mid-August, including three from this week. The account, described by the Harris campaign as its “official rapid response page”, has drawn criticism from an anonymous rebuttal account, @KamalaHQLies, which has amassed over 268,000 followers.

Among the examples cited by CNN:

* **Trump’s “North Carolina” remark**: @KamalaHQ implied Trump was confused about his location, claiming he asked, “Would that be okay, North Carolina?” while speaking in Pennsylvania. However, CNN pointed out that Trump had previously acknowledged supporters from North Carolina and later gave them a shout-out in the same speech.
* **Trump’s “Pennsylvania” statement**: @KamalaHQ claimed Trump forgot which state he was in while speaking in Arizona, highlighting a comment where he mentioned Pennsylvania. CNN clarified that Trump was referring to a town in Pennsylvania while discussing immigration in Arizona.
* **Charlottesville “hoax”**: @KamalaHQ used a deceptively edited clip to claim Trump said “nothing was done wrong” regarding the 2017 Charlottesville events. CNN revealed that Trump, in his full statement, condemned the violence and Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, and his comment referred to his own actions.

CNN also pointed out instances where @KamalaHQ misleadingly edited clips of Republican candidate JD Vance, cutting out crucial context to suggest he was anti-union or in favor of privatizing veterans’ healthcare.

The Harris campaign declined to comment to CNN on the reported inaccuracies.

This rare fact-check by CNN underscores growing concerns about the spread of disinformation on social media, particularly from political campaigns. The report highlights the importance of critical thinking and fact-checking, especially when encountering online content from partisan sources.
