**Kolkata, India** – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has alleged that former RG Kar Medical College principal, Sandip Ghosh, may be involved in a “larger conspiracy” related to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. This assertion was made before a Kolkata court on Sunday during the ongoing investigation.
The CBI arrested Ghosh and Tala Police Station OC Abhijit Mondol a day earlier. While not directly accused of the rape and murder, the agency believes Ghosh played a role in covering up the crime. They pointed to his late arrival at the crime scene and the delayed filing of the First Information Report (FIR) as evidence.
The CBI also claimed that Ghosh and Mondol were in contact, with Ghosh instructing Mondol on how to handle the case. Both allegedly attempted to downplay the incident and shield the perpetrators.
Call records from the night of the incident suggest a possible “nexus” between Mondol and Ghosh, further strengthening the CBI’s suspicion. The agency intends to confront both individuals about their roles.
“It was a case of sexual assault, and they should have approached it cautiously,” a CBI lawyer said. “Mondol conspired with others… There was a clear dereliction of duty.”
The court granted the CBI three days’ custody of both individuals for further questioning.
