Sun Sep 15 14:30:42 UTC 2024: ## Boy With Life-Threatening Scoliosis Mysteriously Removed From Surgery Waiting List
**Dublin, Ireland -** A family is raising serious concerns after their son, Harvey Sherratt (8), was removed from Children’s Health Ireland’s (CHI) urgent scoliosis surgery waiting list without their knowledge. Harvey, who suffers from life-threatening scoliosis, has been waiting for surgery for years, with his condition steadily worsening.
Harvey’s parents, Gillian Sherratt and Stephen Morrison, claim that despite three surgeons recommending the surgery to implant growth rods in his spine, he was removed from the active waiting list. They were not notified of this change until they proactively contacted CHI.
“We feel quiet broken and defeated,” said Ms. Sherratt, “How long would we have gone without knowing that Harvey had been removed from the list?”
The family is now urging other parents of children on the urgent scoliosis surgery waiting list to contact CHI and verify their child’s status. They fear that other families may be unaware their child has been removed from the list.
The removal from the waiting list comes at a time when the Irish health service is facing immense pressure due to a backlog in scoliosis surgeries. A recent leave of absence taken by Harvey’s previous surgeon, Mr. Connor Green, has further exacerbated the issue.
CHI has apologized for the misunderstanding in Harvey’s case and offered to facilitate an appointment for him to be reviewed by two Irish based surgeons. However, Ms. Sherratt remains adamant that she needs answers as to why Harvey was removed from the surgery list and why the family was not informed.
The Journal has reached out to CHI for comment on this matter.
