Sun Sep 15 02:48:17 UTC 2024: ## Manning Shines as Texas Crushes UTSA, Ewers Leaves with Injury

**Austin, TX -** Arch Manning, the highly touted backup quarterback for the No. 2 ranked Texas Longhorns, showcased his skills Saturday night, leading the team to a dominant 56-7 victory over the UTSA Roadrunners. Manning entered the game in the second quarter after starting quarterback Quinn Ewers left with an apparent abdominal injury.

Manning wasted no time making an impact, throwing a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore on his very first play. He followed that up with a 67-yard touchdown run, showcasing both his arm and his legs. Manning finished the game completing 9 of 12 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns, including a 75-yard bomb to Ryan Wingo.

Ewers, who had gained Heisman Trophy buzz following Texas’ victory over Michigan, was 14 of 16 for 165 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game. The extent of his injury is unknown, and Texas has not provided a timetable for his return.

With the Longhorns facing a demanding schedule in the coming weeks, including their first season in the SEC, Manning’s impressive performance has provided a much-needed boost. He has shown the potential to be a capable starter should Ewers be sidelined for an extended period.

Texas will next face Louisiana-Monroe at home, followed by their highly anticipated SEC opener against Mississippi State on September 28th. The Longhorns will then have a bye week before their rivalry game against Oklahoma.
