Sun Sep 15 00:43:35 UTC 2024: ## Manning Shines as Texas Crushes UTSA, Ewers Injured

**Austin, Texas** – Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a strained abdomen in the second quarter of their game against UTSA on Saturday, forcing him to leave the game. However, backup quarterback Arch Manning, the highly-touted freshman and grandson of Archie Manning, stepped in and led the Longhorns to a dominant 56-7 victory.

Manning, who entered the game with Texas leading 14-0, threw for four touchdowns and ran for a 67-yard score, showcasing his impressive talent and poise. He orchestrated a four-play, 72-yard drive on his first series, culminating in a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore Jr. Manning then completed a 75-yard scoring drive on just two plays, including a breathtaking 67-yard touchdown run.

“When the adrenaline kicks in, it helps you run a bit faster,” said Manning after the game.

Ewers, who had thrown for 185 yards with two touchdowns and one interception before the injury, exited the game after handing the ball off to running back Quintrevion Wisner. He was seen limping and was subsequently evaluated in the medical tent before heading to the locker room.

“It remains to be seen the seriousness of that. We don’t think it’s anything structural or broken,” said Texas coach Steve Sarkisian regarding Ewers’ injury.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Ewers’ recovery, Manning stepped up in a big way. He connected on a 51-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Bond in the third quarter and later threw a 75-yard touchdown to Ryan Wingo.

“It helps when you have great players around you and good coaches,” Manning said. “I’ve just learned so much from Quinn.”

Sarkisian praised Manning’s performance, noting his composure in a high-pressure situation. “It’s hard when you have a backup who doesn’t have a ton of experience. Arch was our third guy last year,” said Sarkisian. “There’s nothing like being in the game. Playing in front of 105,000 people is not the easiest thing to do. I’m really proud of Arch.”

With Ewers’ status uncertain, Manning will likely be the starting quarterback when Texas hosts Louisiana-Monroe next Saturday.
