Sun Sep 15 03:10:21 UTC 2024: ## Texas Star QB Ewers Injured, Arch Manning Shines in Relief

**Austin, TX** – Texas Longhorns star quarterback Quinn Ewers exited Saturday’s game against UTSA with an abdominal and oblique strain, leaving the door open for freshman backup Arch Manning to shine.

Ewers, who had been considered a Heisman Trophy frontrunner following a dominant performance against Michigan, left the game in the second quarter after suffering the injury on a non-contact play. Coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed the diagnosis, adding that while there is no structural damage, Ewers’ status is uncertain.

Manning, the highly-touted No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2023, entered the game and immediately impressed, completing nine of 12 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns. His first play from scrimmage resulted in a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore Jr., and he later added a 67-yard touchdown run, the longest by a Texas quarterback since Vince Young.

“You never know as a backup when you’re going to be put in the game,” Sarkisian said after the game. “For him to come in on his first play to hit DeAndre Moore for the touchdown… That was great experience for him that he got.”

Despite the injury to Ewers, the Longhorns remain in a favorable position with a manageable schedule ahead. They face Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State in the coming weeks before a bye. Their conference schedule, including a crucial matchup against Oklahoma, begins after the bye week.

With Manning’s impressive performance, the backup quarterback has already seen a surge in his Heisman Trophy odds, climbing to No. 7 according to various sportsbooks.

While the extent of Ewers’ injury remains unclear, the Longhorns are confident in their quarterback room and hopeful for a successful season.
