A fan-made, fully animated remake of the upcoming “Minecraft” movie trailer has sparked a debate online, with many viewers finding the animation far more appealing than the official CGI/live-action hybrid. The trailer, released by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, features a cast including Jason Momoa, Jack Black, and Jennifer Coolidge, and tells the story of four misfits transported to the world of Minecraft, where they must overcome challenges and embrace their creativity to return home.
The fan-made trailer, however, uses a completely animated style, capturing the essence of the popular video game more effectively. This has led some to question whether the film should have gone full animation, as the CGI/live-action hybrid feels jarring in comparison.
The film, directed by Jared Hess (known for “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Nacho Libre”), will hit theaters on April 4, 2025. It remains to be seen whether the fan-made animation’s success will have any impact on the final product, but it certainly highlights the potential of a fully animated “Minecraft” movie.
