**JERUSALEM** – An investigation into the deaths of three Israeli hostages, whose bodies were found in underground tunnels in Gaza last year, has concluded that they were most likely killed in a military airstrike aimed at a Hamas commander.

Nik Beizer, 19, Ron Sherman, 19, and Elia Toledano, 28, were being held in a tunnel where Hamas Northern Brigade commander Ahmed Ghandour was operating when the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) struck on November 10th, according to the IDF. Their bodies were found on December 14th, and the investigation concluded in recent days.

The IDF stated that while it cannot definitively determine the cause of death, a high probability assessment based on intelligence reports, the location of the bodies, analysis of the strike, and Forensic Medicine Institute findings points to the airstrike as the likely cause.

The military emphasized that they had no prior knowledge of hostages being present in the targeted compound at the time of the strike.

The IDF expressed condolences to the families of the hostages and said they will continue to support them during this difficult time.

This revelation comes amidst intense domestic protests in Israel calling for a ceasefire agreement, with many directing their anger towards Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The deaths of the hostages have fueled public outrage, with some families accusing Netanyahu of prioritizing his political agenda over the lives of their loved ones.

The IDF previously found the bodies of six other hostages killed by Hamas and returned them to Israel earlier this month.

An estimated 250 individuals were abducted and held hostage in the Gaza Strip during the conflict. While a short-lived ceasefire agreement in November led to the release of over 100 hostages, the fighting resumed, leaving some hostages rescued or found dead. The IDF currently estimates that 101 hostages remain in Gaza.
