Sat Sep 14 20:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Himachal Pradesh Batters Heavy Rains, 156 Roads Closed

**Shimla, September 14:** Torrential rainfall continues to lash Himachal Pradesh, leading to the closure of 156 roads, including the vital National Highway 5 (Hindustan-Tibet Road). The state is battling heavy rainfall with Katula recording the highest precipitation at 78.5 mm since Friday evening.

The National Highway 5 was shut down at Malling Nallah in Kinnaur district due to landslides and falling debris. A total of 94 roads are closed in Shimla, 46 in Mandi, 10 in Kangra, 3 in Kullu, and 1 each in Bilapsur, Kinnaur, and Sirmaur districts due to rain-related incidents.

The state’s Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported that 383 power and water supply schemes have been affected by the heavy rain. Himachal Pradesh has experienced an 18% rainfall deficit since the monsoon’s onset on June 27, receiving 561.8 mm against an average of 686.5 mm.

The ongoing monsoon season has claimed the lives of 168 people in rain-related incidents, with 30 still missing. The state has suffered a staggering Rs 1,324 crore in damages.
