Mon Sep 16 08:10:06 UTC 2024: ## Former US President Trump Targeted in Second Assassination Attempt
**Palm Beach, Florida:** Donald Trump, the former US President, narrowly escaped another assassination attempt on Sunday, just 64 days after a previous incident. According to CNN, the incident occurred at the Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach County, Florida, where Trump was playing golf.
Secret Service agents noticed a suspicious individual lurking in the bushes near the golf course. The suspect was carrying an AK-47 rifle and a GoPro camera, aiming towards the course. The distance between Trump and the suspect was approximately 300 to 500 meters.
Upon spotting the suspect, Secret Service agents fired upon him, forcing him to flee in a black SUV. A witness managed to capture a photo of the suspect’s vehicle, allowing the Secret Service to trace its license plate and apprehend the individual about 60 kilometers away on a highway.
The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Roth, is currently in custody and being interrogated by the FBI, which has classified the incident as an attempted assassination. Trump has confirmed his safety, stating he heard gunshots but is unharmed.
This latest incident follows a previous shooting incident on July 13th in Butler, Pennsylvania, during which a bullet grazed Trump’s ear. The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Kruz, was subsequently killed by Secret Service agents.
According to CNN, Trump’s golf outing was a last-minute addition to his schedule. Republican Party donor Steve Witkoff was present with Trump at the time of the incident.
Trump, who returned to Florida this weekend after a West Coast tour, expressed gratitude to the Secret Service for their swift action. He also assured his supporters that he is safe and will not be deterred from campaigning.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been informed of the incident and expressed relief that Trump is unharmed. They reiterated their stance against political and other forms of violence in the United States.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a separate investigation into the attempted assassination of Trump, stating that the public deserves to know how a suspect could get so close to a former president and presidential candidate.
Roth, a resident of North Carolina, has a history of arrests for drug possession, driving without a license, and driving without insurance. He moved to Hawaii in 2017 and operates a shed-building company that constructs simple housing structures for homeless individuals.
Prior to the Republican Party primaries, Roth reportedly supported candidates Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley, who challenged Trump. His social media accounts, including Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), have been deactivated since his arrest. He has also been active in fundraising efforts for Ukraine and traveled to the country in 2022, sharing his experiences on social media.
While Roth voted for Trump in 2016, he later expressed disillusionment with the former president and shared posts relating to COVID-19 conspiracy theories. His social media presence also suggests he may be suffering from a mental illness.
Sheriff Rick Bradshaw praised the Secret Service agent who was present at the golf course for his quick response and commended the agency for its effectiveness. He also highlighted that while Trump is no longer the president, he still receives a high level of security protection.
The attempted assassination has raised concerns about Trump’s safety and the growing threat of political violence in the United States. As investigations continue, authorities are working to determine the motive behind Roth’s actions.
