Sat Sep 14 00:16:00 UTC 2024: ## Jiangcun Academy: A New Hub for Rural Revitalization and Social Research in China

**SUZHOU, CHINA – September 14, 2024** – Construction is underway on the Jiangcun Academy, an educational project dedicated to preserving and promoting the scholarly legacy of renowned Chinese sociologist Fei Xiaotong. Located in Kaixiangong Village, Wujiang District, Suzhou, the academy is garnering attention from the academic community and broader society.

Kaixiangong Village, also known as Jiangcun, holds a special significance in Fei Xiaotong’s work. From 1936 to 2002, he visited the village 26 times, conducting extensive research that led to influential publications like “Peasant Life in China” and “From the Soil: The Foundations of Chinese Society.” The village became a pivotal window into rural China for Fei and subsequent generations of scholars.

The Jiangcun Academy aims to build upon this legacy by establishing a comprehensive research and training center focused on rural revitalization. The academy is set to become a national social survey base, a social science laboratory, and a training demonstration base with global reach.

Covering 35.5 mu (nearly 2.67 hectares), the project includes teaching buildings and supporting facilities. Upon completion in June 2025, the academy will be able to accommodate 300 students for learning, discussion, and research.

The academy will encompass one base and four centers: the Chinese Modernization Jiangcun Research Base, the International Social Science Research Center, the Economic and Social Survey and Experimental Center, the Rural Revitalization Training and Demonstration Center, and the Cultural Heritage and Innovation Center.

The Jiangcun Academy will delve into vital topics including urban-rural integration, rural revitalization, social governance, and cultural heritage. The institution’s goal is to generate influential and replicable research findings that contribute to China’s ongoing development.
