Sat Sep 14 09:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Raducanu’s Decision-Making Under Fire: Roddick Criticizes Scheduling Choices

**New York, NY** – Former US Open champion Andy Roddick has weighed in on Emma Raducanu’s struggles, suggesting her decision-making is hindering her progress. The British star’s first-round exit at the US Open, a stark contrast to her 2021 triumph as a qualifier, has sparked further scrutiny.

Roddick, speaking on the “Served” podcast, drew comparisons between Raducanu and Naomi Osaka, who opted to play qualifying at the Cincinnati Open despite her status as a former world No. 1. Raducanu, on the other hand, declined the opportunity, choosing to focus on training instead.

“I’m a fan of hers, and I think sometimes she gets treated unfairly, but she also doesn’t do herself any favors with scheduling and decisions,” said Roddick. “I can’t figure out where I’m at with it. It’s like she won’t play qualies at all for whatever reason.”

He pointed out that Raducanu pulled out of the French Open when she was required to play qualifying. “It’s not a good look when someone who has the pedigree of Naomi Osaka decides to play qualies in Cincinnati and she’s not too proud to do it,” added Roddick.

This criticism echoes sentiments expressed by former world No. 1 Kim Clijsters. Clijsters suggested that Raducanu’s inconsistent performance may be linked to the advice she receives from her team and the immense pressure she faces from the media.

“There’s two things that I think could be the reason,” Clijsters stated. “It’s either maybe not having the right people around you who kind of guide you, or it might be a personal aspect. Or is it her? Is there other things going on mentally?”

While Raducanu’s future remains uncertain, the spotlight on her decision-making underscores the challenges she faces in reclaiming her place at the top of women’s tennis. Whether it’s her team or the media pressure that’s hindering her, one thing is clear: Raducanu needs to find a path forward that allows her to perform at her best.
