**Shanghai, China** – Volkswagen has launched the 9th generation Passat in China, this time as a sedan. The new model, dubbed the “Volkswagen Magotan 2024,” boasts a larger size than its predecessor, with a 4990 mm length and a 2841 mm wheelbase, making it a truly spacious vehicle.
Despite its size and features, the Magotan comes with a surprisingly low price tag, starting at just $24,700, making it competitive with budget car brands.
This marks the third Passat model currently available in China, with the German manufacturer opting for a strategy of differentiated models catering to different consumer segments within the vast Chinese market.
While the new Passat is only available as a sedan in China, the European market has already seen the launch of the Passat B9, available solely as a station wagon.
The Magotan 2024 comes equipped with a 1.5-liter engine producing 160 horsepower or a 2-liter engine with 220 horsepower. Volkswagen has not ruled out the possibility of introducing additional engine variants in the future.
