**KUCHING, Sarawak** – The Royal Malaysian Customs Department Sarawak has seized 10 luxury vehicles of various foreign brands in Kuching, valued at a total of RM8,129,825. The vehicles were found to be in violation of Section 75(b) of the Customs Act 1967, according to a statement released by Sarawak Customs director Norizan Yahya.
The raid, conducted on September 2nd, uncovered the vehicles parked at an unlicensed premises. The Customs Department alleges that the vehicles had not been cleared through proper customs procedures and were being stored illegally. The unpaid taxes and duties on the vehicles amounted to RM4,984,825.
The case is currently under investigation under Section 138 and Section 75(b) of the Customs Act 1967, which carries a potential fine of RM50,000 or a jail sentence of up to five years, or both.
In a separate development, Norizan highlighted the ongoing efforts of Sarawak Customs to combat the smuggling of cigarettes and hard liquor. Between July and August of this year, the department seized 2,429,728 sticks of cigarettes valued at RM2,111,602.87, including taxes and duty, and RM920,292.57 worth of hard liquor.
