Sun Sep 15 00:57:36 UTC 2024: ## Chopra Falls Just Short of Diamond League Crown in Brussels
**Brussels, September 14, 2024:** India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed out on the Diamond League title, finishing second for the second consecutive year at the season finale in Brussels on Saturday. The 26-year-old Olympic champion achieved a best throw of 87.86m on his third attempt, but it was a mere centimeter shy of the winning throw by Anderson Peters of Grenada, who secured the title with a mark of 87.87m.
Peters, a two-time world champion, achieved his best throw in the opening round. Germany’s Julian Weber took third place with a throw of 85.97m.
Despite the near miss, Chopra ended his season on a high after adding a silver medal to his Olympic gold in Paris. The Haryana-born athlete, who holds a personal best of 89.94m, remained consistent throughout the season, winning the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland in June.
Chopra’s second-place finish earned him USD 12,000, while Peters claimed the Diamond League trophy and USD 30,000.
The Diamond League final in Brussels marked the end of the prestigious series after 14 legs, as well as the close of the international athletics season.
Chopra, who has been battling a groin injury, is expected to consult with a doctor to address the issue and regain full fitness.
