**Brussels, Belgium:** India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra finished second in the Diamond League final on Saturday, narrowly missing out on the Diamond Trophy. Chopra’s best throw of the competition came in his third attempt, registering a distance of 87.86 meters.
The Diamond League champion was Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who achieved a first-attempt throw of 87.87 meters, beating Chopra by a mere 1 centimeter. This was Chopra’s second attempt to win the Diamond League title, after his successful run in 2022.
Chopra’s performance throughout the final was consistent, with his first throw reaching 86.82 meters, followed by a second attempt of 83.49 meters. After his successful third attempt, he registered 82.04 meters, 83.30 meters, and 86.46 meters in his subsequent throws.
Despite his valiant effort, Chopra was unable to surpass his personal best of 89.94 meters, achieved at the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022. This remains India’s national record for men’s javelin throw.
The Diamond League final winner receives the Diamond Trophy, a cash prize of $30,000, and a wild card entry for the World Athletics Championships. It is important to note that no medals are awarded in the Diamond League competition.
