**Makurdi, Benue State** – The number of confirmed Monkeypox cases in Benue State has risen to 20, with four new samples testing positive, according to the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Asema Msuega. The confirmed cases are concentrated in two local government areas, Makurdi and Gwer West, while suspected cases span across five areas: Ushongo, Katsina-Ala, Gboko, Makurdi, and Gwer West.
The most recent confirmed case originated from Gwer East, with samples sent for testing. Dr. Msuega confirmed that three initial cases have been treated and released from the isolation center at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, while the fourth case was confirmed last Friday. The current patient is receiving treatment in isolation and responding well.
Dr. Msuega emphasized the importance of public awareness campaigns to educate the public about Monkeypox and preventive measures such as hand washing and limiting contact with suspected individuals. He encouraged residents to report suspected cases to their nearest health center for early detection and treatment.
The Benue State government is actively addressing the outbreak and implementing measures to control the spread of the disease.
