**BAGHDAD** – Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdel-Ghani is recovering well after undergoing emergency heart surgery during an official visit to the United States, according to an oil ministry official.
Abdel-Ghani traveled to the US earlier this week to encourage U.S. companies to invest in Iraq’s energy sector. However, he fell ill during the trip and was rushed to the hospital for a heart catheterization procedure.
The oil ministry official confirmed that the surgery was successful and that Abdel-Ghani is now in stable condition. He is expected to make a full recovery.
The Iraqi delegation is expected to continue its meetings with U.S. energy companies despite the minister’s medical emergency.
