Sat Sep 14 16:55:41 UTC 2024: ## Ulez Fines Cancelled After Vandalised Cameras Issue Hundreds of Incorrect Charges

**London, September 14, 2024:** Hundreds of drivers in London have been wrongly issued with Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) charges due to vandalised enforcement cameras. Transport for London (TfL) confirmed that cameras in Chingford, north-east London, were deliberately misaligned, causing them to point outside the Ulez boundary.

The cameras have since been repaired and realigned, and TfL has vowed to cancel all incorrect penalty charges. A spokesperson for TfL condemned the vandalism, stating that it is unacceptable and that all incidents are being reported to the police for investigation.

The vandalism comes at a time when the Ulez expansion has been met with resistance from some residents. In August, the zone was expanded to cover the entire Greater London area. Despite the vandalism, TfL insists that the Ulez will continue to operate.

Meanwhile, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has confirmed that TfL is considering all options to recover nearly £400 million in unpaid Ulez fines. This includes potentially using bailiffs to collect outstanding debts.

While the Ulez scheme has garnered significant criticism, Khan maintains that 96% of vehicles in London are now Ulez compliant, with only 0.27% of drivers receiving fines. However, reports suggest that the Ulez scheme has generated £225 million in revenue, while racking up £255 million in debt.

Drivers who have been incorrectly fined due to the vandalised cameras are urged to contact TfL for a cancellation of their charges. TfL has also assured the public that vandalised cameras will be repaired or replaced as soon as possible.
