Sat Sep 14 16:16:00 UTC 2024: ## Lebanese E-commerce Platform Taps into Chinese Market, Hoping to Boost Economy

**BEIRUT, Sept. 14 (Xinhua)** – Lebanese Signature, an e-commerce platform founded in 2020, is seeing success in the Chinese market, creating new opportunities for Lebanese products and strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

Co-founders Ludmilla Medawar and Joyce Mouawad shared with Xinhua that their collaboration with Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has allowed Lebanese products to reach China’s vast online market. Lebanese wines have proven particularly popular among Chinese consumers.

The platform has been instrumental in assisting small Lebanese producers who struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing them a global reach. Medawar emphasized that Lebanese Signature represents more than just a business; it embodies Lebanon’s story and aspirations, particularly with their focus on partnering with China, one of the world’s largest consumer markets.

“We’re sharing Lebanon’s narrative — its people, history, and future,” Medawar explained.

However, entering the Chinese market has presented challenges, primarily in introducing products unfamiliar to Chinese consumers. Initially, Lebanese Signature focused on raising awareness of products like olive oil, wine, soap, and chocolate.

“For many Chinese consumers, Lebanese food and products are entirely new,” Mouawad remarked. “But that’s part of the excitement — introducing them to new flavors, traditions, and stories.”

The team plans to expand its offerings to include high-end brands, fashion designers, and artisanal crafts, aiming to attract Chinese consumers during major shopping events like the Chinese Spring Festival.

Medawar and Mouawad envision their work going beyond sales. “We hope that not only will Chinese consumers buy our products, but they will also visit Lebanon to experience our culture and hospitality, enhancing tourism and strengthening the cultural ties between our two nations,” Medawar stated.

The founders are optimistic about future economic collaboration between Lebanon and China, highlighting that increased demand from China could boost Lebanon’s production, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.
