**Thessaloniki, Greece** – A 46-year-old driver who struck a family of three near Thessaloniki on Wednesday while driving under the influence of alcohol is expected to appear before an investigative magistrate on Saturday. The suspect, who has been detained since the incident, faces charges of dangerous driving due to alcohol consumption, grievous bodily harm, and bodily damage caused by negligence.

Police investigations revealed the driver had a history of drink-driving, having been arrested and fined five times for the same offense between 2007 and 2020. In 2007, his license was suspended for 90 days, in 2008 for 180 days, and in 2020, he was involved in another accident where he hit a 77-year-old woman.

Following the Wednesday accident, the driver was subjected to two breathalyzer tests, which showed readings of 0.64 and 0.75 mg/l, exceeding the legal limit.

The family, consisting of a 34-year-old mother, a 37-year-old father, and their two-year-old child, sustained serious injuries. The parents remain hospitalized at the Papageorgiou Hospital, intubated and in critical condition. The mother, who was five months pregnant, suffered a miscarriage but is now in stable condition. Their two-year-old child is also reported to be in a stable condition.

This tragic incident highlights the serious consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities are urging all drivers to exercise caution and prioritize road safety by abstaining from alcohol consumption before driving.
