**Brussels, Belgium:** Olympic silver medalist Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed out on winning the Diamond Trophy in the men’s javelin throw at the Diamond League final in Brussels on Saturday, finishing second with a best throw of 87.86 meters.
The Indian star was edged out by Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who claimed the Diamond Trophy with a winning throw of 87.87 meters. It was a nail-biting competition, with Chopra and Peters exchanging the lead throughout the event.
Chopra’s third throw of 87.86 meters put him in the lead for a brief moment, but Peters responded with a throw just one centimeter further to secure victory.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the Diamond Trophy, Chopra showcased his remarkable talent and consistency, finishing ahead of Germany’s Julian Weber who came in third.
Chopra’s performance comes after a challenging season marked by a persistent groin injury. He had to push through pain to achieve a silver medal at the Paris Olympics and secure a second-place finish in two Diamond League meets.
The Indian athlete will now focus on recovering from his injury and preparing for the upcoming season, aiming to break the elusive 90-meter mark.
The Diamond League final also saw Amos Serem of Kenya claim victory in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, defeating Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco.
