**CAIRO -** Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has secured a second term in office with 84.30% of the vote, according to the country’s Constitutional Court. The election, held on September 7th, saw a voter turnout of 46.10%.

Tebboune’s victory has been met with controversy, as his main challenger, moderate Islamist Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, alleged irregularities in the vote counting process.

The election was widely seen as a formality, with Tebboune facing only token opposition from Cherif and moderate secularist Youcef Aouchiche, both supported by Algeria’s powerful establishment. Cherif received 9.56% of the vote, while Aouchiche garnered 6.14%.

Tebboune’s victory solidifies his hold on power, further strengthening the military’s influence in the country.
