Max Verstappen has left the door open for a future move to Aston Martin, hinting at the possibility of reuniting with legendary designer Adrian Newey. Newey recently signed a long-term deal with Aston Martin, marking a major shift in the Formula 1 landscape.
Verstappen, under contract with Red Bull until 2028, has achieved three consecutive world championships driving in Newey-designed cars. Speaking ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Verstappen said, “That is something maybe for the future that I think about, but not now.”
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack confirmed the team’s interest in Verstappen, stating, “The door for Max Verstappen is always open, I think, for everything.” He believes that Newey’s arrival will make Aston Martin a more attractive team, particularly for top drivers.
Newey’s move to Aston Martin coincides with the team’s ambitious plans for the future. They have secured Fernando Alonso, a two-time world champion, until 2026, and Lance Stroll, the team owner’s son. Krack expressed optimism about Alonso’s future with the team, suggesting he might extend his stay beyond 2026 due to the opportunity to work with Newey.
Lewis Hamilton, who was linked to Ferrari where Newey was rumored to be joining, expressed no disappointment about Newey’s decision, stating that he has achieved success without Newey’s guidance in the past.
While Verstappen’s potential move to Aston Martin remains a long-term prospect, his comments and Newey’s presence at the Silverstone-based team signal a potential shift in the power dynamics of Formula 1.
