Sat Sep 14 00:36:00 UTC 2024: ## Conor McGregor’s Return Fight Still Up in the Air, Chandler Takes Interim Bout

**New York, NY** – While Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC remains shrouded in uncertainty, his potential opponent Michael Chandler has opted for an interim fight.

Initial reports suggested that Chandler had moved on from the McGregor matchup, tired of waiting for the Irishman’s recovery. This was revealed in a clip from an upcoming Barstool Sports interview with UFC President Dana White.

However, a subsequent clip from the same interview revealed that White had contacted Barstool host Robbie Fox to clarify the situation. While Chandler may still face McGregor upon his return, he has decided to take a fight against former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 in November.

White has previously stated that McGregor is not expected to fight in 2024 and will return “early” in 2025. The McGregor vs. Chandler fight was initially scheduled for June’s UFC 303 but was postponed due to a broken toe sustained by McGregor.

Both fighters are currently on the sidelines following losses. McGregor last fought in July 2021 against Dustin Poirier, while Chandler last saw action in November 2022 against the same opponent.

The confirmation of Chandler’s interim fight adds another layer of uncertainty to McGregor’s comeback timeline and raises questions about the future of the highly anticipated matchup.
