Fri Sep 13 08:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Brighton Snags Turkish Talent Ferdi Kadioglu, Former Fenerbahce Coach Key to Conversion

Brighton & Hove Albion have secured the signing of Turkish defender Ferdi Kadioglu from Fenerbahce, a move facilitated by a tactical change in his career. The 24-year-old, who predominantly played as a No. 10 in his youth, credits former Fenerbahce coach Vitor Pereira for his transformation into a full-back. Pereira, who now manages Al Shabab, recognized Kadioglu’s ability to play on both flanks and saw potential for him in a more defensive role.

Kadioglu, who joined the Seagulls ahead of the transfer deadline, is settling in well, aided by Dutch teammate Jan Paul van Hecke. Both players shared a similar path, transitioning from attacking midfield to a more defensive position.

Speaking about his move, Kadioglu revealed his discussions with Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who outlined his vision for the club and the player’s role within it. The Turkish defender was motivated by Brighton’s reputation for developing players and their success in attracting top talent.

The transfer has left Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho, who has faced Brighton twice previously with Manchester United and Tottenham, less than thrilled. Kadioglu, however, believes that the move was a necessary step for his career progression.

Brighton’s new signing is set to become a crucial component of their defensive line, adding further strength and versatility to their squad. His offensive DNA and attacking prowess, ingrained from his attacking midfield days, will undoubtedly add another dimension to the Seagulls’ gameplay.
