**Rochester Hills, MI** – Stevenson High School’s football team overcame a sluggish start to defeat Chippewa Valley 24-7 in their MAC Red Division opener on Friday night. Trailing 7-0 at halftime, Titan quarterback Andrew Knight Jr. took charge, leading the team to 24 unanswered points in the second half.
“Andrew was somebody I specifically called upon at halftime,” said Stevenson coach Justin Newcomb. “I told him it was time for him to put the team on his back and to take the next step.” Knight responded with a strong performance, leading an 11-play, 80-yard drive for a touchdown in the third quarter and connecting with receiver Ronnie Hill Jr. for a 64-yard scoring strike later in the game.
Chippewa Valley coach Terry Wilson acknowledged Stevenson’s second-half dominance, saying, “I think (Stevenson) outplayed us in the second half. We made a couple key mistakes that gave up touchdowns and we couldn’t keep our drives sustained.”
Knight finished the game with 13 completions on 20 attempts for 144 yards and 60 rushing yards. Hill-Alston added 47 yards on the ground, while Hill recorded six catches for 108 yards.
The Big Reds, led by running back Caleb Fowlkes’ 76 yards on 15 carries, were unable to maintain their early momentum.
Stevenson improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Red, while Chippewa Valley falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.
Both teams will face tough tests next week: Stevenson will host 3-0 Dakota, while Chippewa Valley will travel to Romeo.
